    What is Type 4 Hair?

Type is 4 hair is described as KINKY, dry and fragile hair with a tightly packed curly texture.  Each hair type can have fine, coarse, dense, or thin strands within it. It is also possible to have several types of hair types on one head. With this being said, care for type 4 hair is generally the same throughout a, b, and c types with subtle changes between types.

    4A

Full of coils the size of a pencil that forms an S when stretched. Similar to type 3c hair.

    Care

    • Maintain your Hair Routine
    • Deep Condition Regularly
    • Hydrate
    • Maintain a Night Routine
    • Wash your hair in sections
    • Use Low Manipulation Styles

    Products

4a Hair can get away with slightly lighter, but still water based and hydrating creamy products that don’t weigh down coils.

LLCO: Jojoba oil is great as it provides the good qualities of oils without being too heavy.

    4B

Identified by its densely packed Z patterned that forms waves, these sharp bends can be more sensitive to breakage if not handled properly.

    Care

4B Hair is more delicate, but it also performs very well with stretching because it does not twist in on itself like 4c does.

    • Maintain your Hair Routine
    • Deep Condition Regularly
    • Hydrate
    • Maintain a Night Routine
    • Wash your hair in sections
    • Use Low Manipulation Styles

    Products

Thick creamy water based moisturizers/gels work best for 4b & c hair.

LCO: I like to pair with castor oil since it is very softening and great for smoothing your strands.

    4C

Also densely packed, consists of tightly coiled strands the size of the spring inside of an ink pen. At first glance, it is similar to 4b, but the distinct beautiful coil pattern of 4c is hard to confuse.

    Care

4C Hair is DELICATE when dry due to its very tight coil pattern. It often needs an extra layer of stretching in order to properly smooth and maintain a protective style.
